What the relationship has to prove
Expect a marriage certificate or the partnership evidence the 2026 list actually names, legalized or apostilled, and translated where the post requires Portuguese. A wedding photograph, a joint lease, or a social-media history is not a substitute. Divorce, prior marriages, and name changes need the civil documents that explain the current status.
What spouse coverage does not do
It does not make the partner a highly qualified worker. It does not skip identity, police, or subsistence items listed for family members. It does not put the partner on the principal’s card. If granted, the spouse receives a separate residence card with its own validity and, later, its own path toward HQA visa permanent residency.
